Affymetrix
In February of 2005, Harvard Partners Center for Genetics and Genomics (HPCGG)
and Affymetrix, Inc. (Nasdaq: AFFX) announced an agreement that will provide HPCGG with early access
to next-generation Affymetrix GeneChip Human Mapping microarrays capable of scanning up to 500,000
Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), or variations of DNA sequence in the human genome. The
Affymetrix technology will allow HPCGG researchers to investigate at an unprecedented scale the genetic
origins of atherosclerosis, a condition where the arteries become clogged. More than 1200 patient samples will be
examined and will come from the Women's Health Study, an ongoing 10-year National Institutes of Health
(NIH) funded study of cardiovascular events in 38,000 women.
Agilent
Technologies
In April of 2004 Partners HealthCare
and Agilent Technologies announced a one-year agreement under which
Agilent will provide microarray and gene expression products to
the Partners hospitals.
Guava
In August of 2003, Partners HealthCare and Guava Technologies entered
into a two-year alliance centered on Guavas proprietary cell-analysis
platform, the PCA (Personal Cell Analysis). This relationship is
designed to provide PHS scientists with exposure to this new technology
and to develop novel applications for the platform that will be
of use to the research community. Partners access to this technology
will be achieved through a rotating series of PCA-based research
projects being conducted by PHS investigators. During the course
of this relationship, PHS scientists will have an opportunity to
purchase Guava products at a preferential rate.
Hewlett
Packard
In September 2003, Partners HealthCare (PHS) entered into a corporate
sponsorship agreement with Hewlett-Packard (HP), a leading global
provider of products, technologies, solutions and services, to develop
a genomic and genetic computing platform and infrastructure to support
research and clinical activities at Harvard Medical School-Partners
HealthCare Center for Genetics and Genomics (HPCGG) and within the
broader research communities across PHS. PHS and HP have established
a partnership, whereby both organizations will combine their collective
expertise, domain knowledge, experience, and technology to deliver
on specific clinical genomics solutions.
Millennium
A five-year alliance that provides a facilitated pathway for Millennium
sponsored basic and clinical research through:
- Access to Millennium proprietary
process and key technologies through facilitated sponsored research
- Development and commercialization
of inventions made during the course of research
- Licensing of technology from PHS
to Millennium
- Transfer of genetic and other biologic
materials within sponsored research collaborations

Thermo
Electron
An alliance that marks the establishment
of a functional proteomics core at the Harvard - Partners Center for
Genetics and Genomics to support protein research endeavors across
the PHS Hospitals.
Zyomyx
A three-year sponsored research alliance achieving the following objectives:
1.) to provide PHS scientists access to the Zyomyx Protein Biochip
System and protein chip technology for advancing their research 2.)
to provide PHS with sponsored research opportunities, and 3.) to assist
Zyomyx in validating its protein Biochips.
