The Illumina platform is a cutting-edge technology that generates extremely large amounts of data - as much as 1.5Gb is this per run for up to eight samples. It can produce this volume of data at a much lower cost than sequencing using traditional platforms. The Genome Analyzer's many applications include resequencing of human and bacterial genomes, SAGE analysis, miRNA screening and ChIP sequencing, all of which are available at the genome center. The Sequencing core is currently beta testing analysis software for the large amount of data produced by the Genome Analyzer.
