Genetics in Medicine IT Team wins Partners in Excellence Award

The Genetics in Medicine IT Team, which is composed of HPCGG, Partners IS, and Hewlett Packard personnel, has received a Partners in Excellence Award.

Genetics in Medicine IT Team
Leadership and Innovation
Under the guidance of Sandy Aronson, Director of Information Techology at the Harvard-Partners Center for Genetics and Genomics (HPCGG), the Genetics in Medicine IT Team has made great strides in using information technology to collect, store, retrieve and analyze genetic and genomic data capable of advancing personalized medicine. Over the past two years this talented and multi-faceted team has consulted with clinicians, researchers and IS colleagues to design, test and develop applications and infrastructures uniquely able to handle both the clinical and research use of complex genetic and genomic information. One of their innovations, called the Gateway for Integrated Genomics Proteomics Applications and Data (GIGPAD), has assisted 375 clinicians, laboratory technicians, laboratory directors and researchers in the management of approximately 120,000 samples. "The challenge of managing the interwoven and complex genetic and genomic information has not yet been fully solved, but the Genetics in Medicine IT team has made important breakthroughs in integrating this information into critical Partners information systems, including the CDR, RPDR and the Electronic Medical Record," wrote the team's nominator. "We believe this work is pioneering and paves the way for a true revolution of patient care."
